PROJECT: Municipal Wellfield Siting and Permitting
Dayton and Lafayette, Oregon
GSI staff members conducted a detailed hydrogeologic evaluation and developed
a conceptual hydrogeologic model using existing municipal and irrigation well
data for the Cities of Dayton and Lafayette to identify a target aquifer for
a new City wellfield. The well siting project involved studying the potential
Troutdale Aquifer yields, distribution and nature of local poor groundwater quality
zones, and potential interference with existing wells. GSI provided permitting
assistance to obtain water rights and land use approval, and worked with the
Oregon Water Resources Department and local farmers to prepare a groundwater
management plan for the aquifer that will ensure that the aquifer is not over-pumped
and that well interference is minimized. Recently, GSI assisted with the drilling
and testing of two new production wells.
