PROJECT: Groundwater Supply Planning and Development
Portland, Oregon
GSI evaluated the potential for developing additional groundwater sources from
three alluvial aquifers for the Rockwood Water People’s Utility District in the
east Portland area. We evaluated various locations relative to potential water
rights considerations, land ownership, presence of conveyance infrastructure,
aquifer production potential, and potential for adverse water quality (primarily
from manganese). Based on GSI’s recommendations, the District abandoned two existing
wells and subsequently drilled two new deep production wells that are capable
of producing 2,700 and 4,200 gpm of high-quality water. The work also included
prioritization of well sites for future development.
