PROJECT: Ranney Collector Well Design and Testing
Boardman, Oregon
GSI assisted the City of Boardman with permitting, design, and testing a new
collector well on the Columbia River. Testing consisted of a step-rate test and
a constant-rate test conducted for 72 hours at a rate of 10,000 gpm. Test results
were used to size the pumps and conveyance piping. The collector well is 13 feet
in diameter, 50 feet deep, and has seven 12-inch-diameter horizontal well screens
(laterals) ranging from 65 to 190 feet long. GSI used aquifer information obtained
during a 10-year period of working with the City to provide technical support
during extensive permitting negotiations with the Oregon Water Resources Department,
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and National Marine Fisheries Service regarding
protection of anadromous fish. The permits were issued and the City has met its
objectives for securing a long-term water supply and for putting its water rights
to full use.
