GSI VOLUNTEERS

DECEMBER 2009
    • Erin Carroll (GSI Hydrogeologist) volunteered in a rural community in Nicaragua.
Because of Erin’s experience conducting her MS thesis work in the central highlands
of Nicaragua, she was invited by Dr. John Rueter, environmental science professor
at Portland State University (PSU), and Jason Selwitz, director of service learning for
Green Empowerment, to assist with a Senior Capstone Project at PSU during fall term 2009.
The students in this particular Capstone group are working to improve the quality of life,
including water supplies, for residents in rural Nicaraguan communities. GSI sponsored Erin’s trip.
    • Dozens of new toys were donated to Toys for Tots in the Portland area by GSI employees.

OCTOBER 2009
